“The war? Has the war begun?? We could not believe it…”
“The war? Has the war begun?? We could not believe it…”
With such thoughts the morning started for a resident of the city of Sloviansk.
"The sleep was interrupted by the explosions that opened the windows in the flat and shook the house. At that moment, I remembered the words of my great-grandmother: "If only there was a peaceful sky above my head."
The situation became worse every day, and one May morning a rocket exploded 500 meters from our house. The understanding that it could hit our house made us quickly pack up and leave the city.
At the checkpoints, we were asked: Where are you from? Where are you going to?" Through tears, we answered: "From Sloviansk, we are going nowhere." We just did not know where to flee from the war and what was awaiting us there..."
A day later, we were in the IDPs camp in the Kropyvnytskyi district, Kirovohrad region. We got acquainted with all the neighbors, and everyone had their own "war story", but we all had one common thing: the joy that we survived."
Such stories are breathtaking. And this is only a small part of the war impact.
We continue doing everything possible to help the affected displaced persons. But a cold war winter is ahead, so it will take a lot of effort...
